Bachelorette Rachel Lindsay and Bryan Abasolo split after 4 years of marriage
The couple, who met on season 13 of The Bachelorette in 2017, announced their divorce on Instagram on January 2, 2024.
Former Bachelorette Rachel Lindsay and her husband Bryan Abasolo have decided to end their marriage after more than four years together. The couple, who met and got engaged on Lindsay’s season of The Bachelorette in 2017, shared the news of their split on Instagram on Sunday, January 2, 2024.
Abasolo, a chiropractor, posted a photo of him and Lindsay smiling together, along with a lengthy caption explaining their decision to part ways. He wrote, “It is with a heavy heart that I share with you that Rachel and I have decided to go our separate ways. We have nothing but love and respect for one another and will continue to remain friends and support each other’s happiness.”
He added, “This was not an easy decision and it took us a long time to get here. We appreciate your understanding and ask for your privacy as we navigate this new chapter of our lives.”
Lindsay, a former attorney and TV host, reposted Abasolo’s message on her own Instagram story, adding a heart emoji and the words “Forever grateful for you B.”
The couple tied the knot in a lavish ceremony in Mexico on August 24, 2019, two years after their engagement aired on the ABC reality show. They were the first interracial couple to get married from the Bachelor franchise.
However, their relationship faced challenges due to their different careers and living situations. Lindsay, who became the first Black lead in Bachelor history, pursued a successful media career, hosting podcasts, writing a book, and appearing on shows like Extra and The View. Abasolo, meanwhile, focused on his chiropractic practice in Los Angeles, where he worked long hours.
The couple also lived apart for most of their marriage, with Lindsay spending time in Texas, New York, and Miami, while Abasolo stayed in LA. They often faced divorce rumors due to their lack of social media posts about each other, which they dismissed as false.
In a December episode of Nick Viall’s Viall Files podcast, Lindsay explained why she and Abasolo kept their relationship largely private. She said, “We don’t put ourselves out there at all [except] maybe an anniversary or a holiday [post here and there], but I think I did that because people were so critical of us when we came off the show.”
She also revealed that they were discussing family planning and hoped to have kids in the future. She said, “I hope for kids. I hope that we work less. … I hope that we have kids and we are working now for something bigger. So I hope that we have built the bigger and can spend more time growing a family.”
Lindsay and Abasolo are the latest Bachelor Nation couple to call it quits, following the recent splits of Tayshia Adams and Zac Clark, Katie Thurston and Blake Moynes, and Michelle Young and Nayte Olukoya. Their divorce comes as the franchise prepares to launch a new season of The Bachelor, starring Clayton Echard, on January 3, 2024.
