Zuckerberg unveils Meta’s new Muse Charm

Zuckerberg unexpectedly unveiled its ‘Muse Charm’ – a pocket-sized AI companion reminiscent of yesteryear’s Tamagotchi.

The move comes as an effort from Meta to reduce dependence on Google and Apple operating systems, allowing users direct access to Meta’s Muse AI without navigating third-party apps and search engines.

Zuckerberg sees what he describes as “personal super intelligence” as the next big thing, saying:

“It’s actually pretty clear that personal superintelligence will not only arrive first, but will also be much bigger and more important [than the Metaverse].”

Analysts believe the Muse Charm could appeal to younger consumers with the device being reminiscent of previous successful digital companion ‘Tamagotchi’ – especially at a time when digital cameras, flip phones, and MP3 players are enjoying a nostalgic comeback.

The Muse Charm is composed of a touch screen measuring about 2 inches diagonally with a customizable Muse character appearing in the center of the screen – the built-in 5G modem allows users to access Muse without connecting to Wi-Fi, although the device cannot make phone calls.

The Muse Charm’s success, however, is dependent on Muse’s success and continued momentum with analysts expecting the answer to that question will depend on users’ experiences in the coming months.
