Saudi-led coalition says Houthis attacked three Saudi cities with missiles, drones

The Saudi-led coalition in Yemen said on Wednesday that the Iran-backed Houthi militia had launched ballistic missile and drone attacks toward three cities in Saudi Arabia, accusing the militia of continuing to target the Kingdom’s infrastructure and national assets.

Maj. Gen. Turki al-Maliki, the spokesman for the Coalition to Support Legitimacy in Yemen, said the Houthis had carried out attacks toward Khamis Mushait, Abha and Jazan using “a number of ballistic missiles and drones,” according to a statement carried by the Saudi Press Agency (SPA).

Al-Maliki said the continued attacks demonstrated the Houthis’ “extremist ideology” and their approach of escalating the conflict and targeting civilians in Saudi Arabia.

He said the coalition’s Joint Forces Command would respond “responsibly” to protect Saudi Arabia’s sovereignty, national assets, civilians and civilian infrastructure.

Al-Maliki added that the coalition would act in accordance with the right to self-defense under international law and Article 51 of the UN Charter, as well as international humanitarian law and its customary rules.
