Iran risks becoming ‘global pariah’ if it fires on warships of other countries in Strait of Hormuz
Iran’s move to threaten the Strait of Hormuz and influence global oil prices may be a “logical response” to its military imbalance with the US, but it risks backfiring if Washington and its allies move to secure the waterway, says Eli Bremer, US Republican strategist and Air Force veteran.

“The risk that they’re going to have is if Trump is able to bring in several other countries to work on this from a naval point of view,” Bremer told Al Jazeera.

That would force Iran to make “a really difficult decision”, he added.

“They’ve made a lot of enemies early in the war by firing on their neighbours. If they fire on warships of other countries outside the US who are escorting ships through the strait, then they risk really becoming a pariah globally despite the oil prices.”
