Video circulating on social media shows Israelis blocking the road in one of the city’s commercial centres, waving flags and demanding that Netanyahu’s government do more to ensure the return of the captives still held in the enclave.

As we’ve been reporting, the families of the captives have organised a general strike across the country today as a means of putting pressure on the government to reach a deal with Hamas.

Protests are occurring in several major cities, with Israeli media reporting that throngs of demonstrators blocked several other highways, causing widespread traffic jams. Thousands of police officers have been deployed.
