Former Arsenal star Thomas Partey charged with rape

Former Arsenal midfielder Thomas Partey is set to appear in court on Tuesday, over charges of raping two women in his mansion in North London and a luxury hotel in Spain between 2021 and 2022.

The Ghanaian footballer was also accused of sexually assaulting a third woman, as revealed by the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS).

The 32-year-old footballer is facing six charges overall; however, Partey’s lawyer, Jenny Wiltshire, recently said that he has denied all charges made against him and wants an opportunity to prove his innocence.

According to The Standard, court documents revealed that the allegations started between April 2021 to June 2022, while Thomas Partey was still playing for Arsenal before his contract expired on June 30, 2025. However, Partey was only charged recently with the accusations, four days after departing from North London.

An Arsenal spokesperson disclosed that Partey’s contract ended due to legal issues.

Ahead of his departure from Arsenal, Partey signed a contract with the Spanish football club Villarreal.

Villarreal fans have voiced their disappointment on social media regarding the club’s signing of Partey. Some even made a petition in disapproval of the contract, while others flooded the club’s fan mailbox in protest.

Jaswant Narwal of the CPS revealed that the investigation took more than three years after the footballer was accused of rape back in February 2025. He added, “The Crown Prosecution Service has today authorised the prosecution of Thomas Partey for multiple counts of rape – after carefully reviewing a comprehensive file of evidence.”

He stated further that the defendant will have the right to “a fair trial.” Narwal urged anyone affected by the case to contact CPS for investigation purposes.
