Video: Did Messi step on Barcelona’s shirt on purpose?

A video circulating across social media showcased renowned Argentinian football player Lionel Messi stepping on a Barcelona t-shirt, sparking widespread debate on whether he did it on purpose or not. 

The video showcased fans trying to desperately get Messi’s attention during his match against Atlanta United by throwing Barcelona’s football club t-shirt at him. The Inter Miami star didn’t notice and ended up accidentally stepping on it, going viral on social media.

Speculations from fans quickly swarmed the internet with several claiming that Messi doesn’t respect Barcelona anymore. A user on Musk’s X (formerly known as Twitter) wrote, “If he respected the club he would’ve come back and picked it up.”

On the contrary, several other fans said that the move was “definitely unintentional” knowing the football legend’s history with the La Liga club. Lionel Messi played for Barcelona for nearly two decades from 2004 to 2021 before leaving for Paris Saint-Germain and now, MLS’s Inter Miami.

According to Goal, the Argentinian football star has expressed that Barcelona still holds a special place in his heart and is looking to relocate to Catalonia with his beloved family when his term with Inter Miami is finished.

Moreover, during his time in Barcelona, Messi managed to score 672 goals in 778 appearances making him the top scorer in the football club’s history.
