Apple, the American multinational technology company, launched its Vision Pro last year. The AR/VR headset is struggling with an app shortage.

Apple’s Vision Pro app shortage

The famous tech company released its Vision Pro, a mixed-reality headset combining augmented reality (AR) and virtual reality (VR), in February 2024. According to AppFigures, the number of apps available on the Vision Pro has declined significantly.

Notably, Apple stated in August 2024 that around 2,500 apps were available, but the total count has now dropped to 1,900.

Sources revealed that developers who work on new apps and concepts for the Vision Pro are mostly freelance developers who have day jobs and work for short spans for Apple.

Adam Roszyk, a programmer in Poland who has created 17 Vision Pro apps stated: “We are still early, and we don’t really know how it can be really useful in your life,” Roszyk said. “There’s so many different ideas that just come to your mind.”

The company is now competing with Meta and Google. In the meantime, Apple is developing a new version of its Vision Pro as users demanded a lighter and less expensive version.

Tim Cook, CEO of Apple, announced previously: “Over time, everything gets better, and it too will have its course of getting better and better. I think it’s just arguably a success today from an ecosystem-being-built-out point of view.”
