Donald Trump appoints Mel Gibson, Jon Voight, and Sylvester Stallone as Hollywood ambassadors
President-elect Donald Trump has named Mel Gibson, Jon Voight, and Sylvester Stallone ambassadors to help make Hollywood “bigger, better, and stronger.”
Mel Gibson, Jon Voight, and Sylvester Stallone are the headliners of what Donald Trump is referring to as his “special ambassadors to a great but very troubled place, Hollywood, California.” Trump wants to make Hollywood “bigger, better, and stronger.”
The three actors will be the president-elect’s eyes and ears in the filmmaking town, he declared on his social media platform.
He wrote on Truth Social that it would once more be the Golden Age of Hollywood, akin to the United States of America itself.
“They will act as special envoys to me in order to bring Hollywood, which has lost a lot of business to foreign countries over the past four years, back bigger, better, and stronger than ever before,” he stated.
The performers “will be my eyes and ears, and I will get done what they suggest,” according to Trump.
US President-elect Donald Trump named controversial movie legends and long-standing supporters Sylvester Stallone, Mel Gibson and Jon Voight as special envoys to Hollywood on January 16, 2025
Hotspots like the Middle East typically receive the dispatch of special ambassadors and envoys instead of California.
Trump’s choice to use the actors as his “ambassadors” highlights his obsession with the 1980s and 1990s, when Gibson and Stallone were two of the biggest movie stars in the world and he was a rising tabloid celebrity in New York.
Stallone introduced Trump at a November event soon after the election and is a regular visitor to Trump’s Mar-a-Lago estate.
George Washington had no notion that he would alter the course of history as he defended his nation. “Imagine the world’s state without him,” Stallone addressed the audience. “You know what? We received the second George Washington. Congratulations!
“I received the news at the same time as all of you and was just as surprised,” Gibson said in a statement. Still, I answer the call. As a citizen, it is my responsibility to offer all assistance and wisdom I can.
“Any chance the position comes with an ambassador’s residence?” said Gibson, who lost his house in the Palisades fire.
I’m old enough to have experienced a few years of Hollywood’s Golden Age, and I’ve watched it gradually decline ever since. We’re in really horrible shape right now,” Voight remarked. “We are fortunate to have an incoming president who wants to restore Hollywood to its former glory, and with his help, I feel we can get it done.” The production of films in this region has significantly decreased.
Trump’s readiness to ignore his fans’ most divisive remarks is also evident in the choice. Gibson’s status in Hollywood has changed since his detention in 2006 for allegedly driving under the influence and engaging in an antisemitic tirade. However, he has also continued to helm the upcoming Mark Wahlberg thriller Flight Risk and work on mainstream films.
Voight has referred to Trump as the best president since Abraham Lincoln, and he has been a lifelong Trump admirer.
The COVID-19 pandemic, the 2023 Hollywood guild strikes, and the recent wildfires in Los Angeles have hindered US film and television production in recent years. ProdPro statistics showed a 26% decrease in overall production in the United States compared to 2021.
According to FilmLA, productions in the greater Los Angeles area fell 5.6% from 2023, the lowest level since 2020.
