America Races Against Time to Protect Netanyahu from International Court of Justice Rulings
The United States is racing against time to save the Israeli Prime Minister and leaders of the occupying entity before any rulings are issued by the International Court of Justice (ICJ) concerning the genocide case that South Africa has brought against Israel.
Recently, South African President Cyril Ramaphosa announced that his country will present “a volume of hundreds of pages” next month containing facts and evidence to support the condemnation of Israel and to further expose its crimes with more precise evidence.
Washington and Tel Aviv have collided with the determination and steadfastness of South Africa’s position. President Cyril Ramaphosa confirmed, “We are moving forward with our case,” adding that “the volume is massive, consisting of hundreds and hundreds of pages.” He also stated, “We continue to say that the genocide must stop, there must be a ceasefire, and similarly, hostages must be released.”
South Africa has until October 28th to present its reasons to the ICJ in The Hague to continue the case it has filed against Israel for violations of the Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide during the aggression on Gaza. Since October 7th, with American support, Israel has been waging a devastating war on Gaza, resulting in over 135,000 Palestinian martyrs and wounded, most of whom are children and women, with more than 10,000 missing, amidst massive destruction and deadly famine.
The Israeli government has resorted to the U.S. Congress to exert pressure on the new government in South Africa. In June, a new multi-party coalition government was formed in South Africa after the ruling African National Congress lost the majority it had held for 30 years.
Among the pressures that the U.S. is preparing against Johannesburg is “issuing public statements condemning South Africa’s actions against Israel and threatening that this could lead to the suspension of U.S. trade relations with South Africa.” Meanwhile, members of Congress and Jewish organizations in the U.S. have intensified their direct contacts with South African diplomats in the U.S., making it clear that South Africa will pay a heavy price if it does not change its policy.
The U.S. is pressuring the ICJ to reverse its decisions in prosecuting the leaders of the occupation, despite the clear visibility of Israel’s crimes. At the same time, it justifies and supports the International Criminal Court’s decision to issue an arrest warrant against Russian President Vladimir Putin in March 2023 on charges of “the unlawful deportation of children from Ukraine to Russia,” a charge that Moscow has denied, describing the arrest warrant as “unacceptable.”
Washington is working to use the highest international justice body to align its decisions with its interests, thus defending acts of killing, terrorism, and unprecedented crimes in history. Israel continues to disregard the international community, pursuing the war while ignoring the UN Security Council’s decision to stop it immediately and the ICJ’s orders to take measures to prevent acts of genocide and improve the catastrophic humanitarian situation in Gaza.
