Saudi Crown Prince, Iran president-elect stress enhancing bilateral cooperation
Saudi Arabia’s Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman held a phone call with Iran’s President-elect Masoud Pezeshkian, congratulating him on his recent election victory.
The Crown Prince and Pezeshkian “praised the development of relations between the two countries at various levels, stressing the importance of continuing to enhance cooperation in various fields,” SPA said.
Earlier this month, Pezeshkian won a presidential election held early following the sudden death of president Ebrahim Raisi in May.
Riyad and Tehran agreed in a China-brokered deal last year to restore diplomatic ties and reopen their respective embassies after seven years of no formal ties.
Saudi Arabia had severed ties with Iran in 2016 following an attack by pro-regime protesters on its embassy in Tehran and consulate in Mashhad.
