Eminem drops new single “Houdini” featuring his kids from upcoming album “The Death of Slim Shady (Coup De Grâce)”
With the release of “Houdini,” the first song off his forthcoming 12th album “The Death of Slim Shady (Coup De Grâce),” Eminem is offering his fans a sneak peek at what’s to come this summer.
Hailie Jade, Marshall Mathers’ daughter, is well-known to his fans because she has been a constant in his music and appears on more than 20 songs. Many songs, including “Mockingbird” (2004), have mentioned Alaina, another daughter of Eminem and his ex-wife Kim Scott.
“Houdini,” Eminem’s most recent single, continues this trend by mentioning his children and even including them in the music video. Seeing Hailie, Alaina, and Stevie—Eminem’s third child—in the same photo is a first.
Part of “Houdini” is a throwback to his 2002 track “Without Me,” which included the catchy lyrics, “Guess who’s back, back again, Shady’s back, tell a friend.” Eminem and his longtime collaborator Luis Resto created the song, which has a chorus sample from Steve Miller Band’s “Abracadabra” and a lyric referencing the shooting event involving Megan Thee Stallion. “Would I actually have a chance at a feat if I asked Megan Thee Stallion to collaborate with me?” “I am not sure, but I am happy to be back,” he raps.
As usual, Eminem adds fuel to the hot fires by making comments against transgender people, RuPaul, and even his own children, calling them “brats.” “What? Cancel me? Are you serious?” Paul, I’m done. You may now go. And I’ll likely face consequences for that (watch). You masculine cross-dresser, snake-ass prick, and fake-ass bitch However, you are free to fuck them all and suck my dick. “Asshole Dre, asshole Jimmy, asshole me, asshole you—fuck my own children; they’re spoiled brats.” Yeah, they can fuck off, and you can too. “You got two balls as big as RuPaul’s,” Paul said.
The music video pays blatant tribute to “Without Me,” with Eminem entering a time warp that takes him back to the album’s release year. Two Eminems, one from 2002 and the other from the present day, rap along to “Houdini” in the clip, which is filmed in a comic strip format similar to the video for “Without Me.” Guests include, among many others, 50 Cent, Pete Davidson, Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, and Alchemist.
