Zendaya, Jennifer Lopez, Chris Hemsworth, Bad Bunny are Met Gala 2024 co-chairs
The Met Gala, one of the most anticipated and glamorous events in the fashion world, has announced its co-chairs for this year’s edition.
The four celebrities who will join Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour in hosting the fundraiser are Zendaya, Jennifer Lopez, Chris Hemsworth and Bad Bunny.
The theme of the 2024 Met Gala is “The Garden of Time”, inspired by a short story by J.G. Ballard and a celebration of clothing and fashion that are so fragile that they can never be worn again. The exhibition will feature 250 garments from the Costume Institute’s permanent collection, dating back as far as the 17th century, and showcasing the beauty of the natural world and its inevitable decay. The exhibition will also incorporate elements such as AI, CGI and more, while playing up themes of land, sea and sky.
The co-chairs are expected to dazzle the red carpet with their outfits that reflect the theme and the dress code, which is “The Garden of Time”.
Zendaya, who has attended the Met Gala five times, is known for her stunning and creative looks, such as her Joan of Arc-inspired armor in 2018 and her Cinderella-inspired gown in 2019.
Jennifer Lopez, a 13-time attendee, is also a fashion icon who has rocked various styles, from her plunging Versace dress in 2015 to her crystal-encrusted Balmain gown in 2018.
Bad Bunny, a relative newcomer who has attended the Met Gala twice, is a risk-taker who has worn a backless Jacquemus suit in 2023 and a pearl-embellished coat in 2022.
Chris Hemsworth, who will attend his first Met Gala as a co-chair, is a Hollywood star who has shown his versatility in roles such as Thor, the Huntsman and Tyler Rake.
The Met Gala 2024 will take place on May 6 at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City. The event is a benefit for the museum’s Costume Institute and has raised more than $223.5 million under the leadership of Wintour.
The event is also a cultural phenomenon that attracts celebrities, designers, artists and influencers from around the world. The Met Gala 2024 promises to be a fashion fairy tale with a star-studded cast of co-chairs.
