Video of a child ‘Returned from Death” in Egypt sparks controversy
A video circulating on social media under the title “The Child Youssef Returns from Death Narrates Details of His Confinement Underground” prompted the Ministry of Interior to issue a response
The Ministry conducted an investigation into the clip, revealing it to be misleading. Contrary to the claims made in the video, the incident did not involve an assault and captivity by unknown individuals during an archaeological excavation in the Shubra El-Kheima area of Qalyubia Governorate.
Instead, it was determined that a brawl had occurred on March 24, 2024, between two parties in the jurisdiction of the department, stemming from familial and neighborhood disputes. The son of one of the individuals involved sustained injuries during the altercation.
Legal action was taken against both parties involved in the brawl, and measures were implemented to address the situation. Furthermore, it was discovered that the individual who initially claimed assault sought financial compensation from the opposing party for his son’s injuries.
When negotiations failed, he resorted to filming the misleading video, which included false claims about his son’s injury with the intent to defame the other party. As a result, legal measures were taken against him and his son.
