Uzumaki Episode 1: A terrifying monochromatic adaptation
The Uzumaki anime adaptation has finally blessed Junji Ito fans with the first episode sending chills down our spine for countless reasons.
The anime in question will include four episodes and will cover events from the manga made by Japan’s most well-known horror mangaka, Junji Ito. Uzumaki means ‘Spiral’ in Japanese and tells the story of a cursed town located on Japan’s coast side which is haunted not by a person but by a menacing pattern (Uzumaki).
Uzumaki Episode 1: A terrifying monochromatic adaptation
Fans of Junji Ito have been awaiting a faithful adaptation of his works since other anime like the ‘Junji Ito Collection’ received mixed reviews among watchers and critics alike.
The first episode captured the manga’s feel pretty well due to several aspects including its monochromatic color palette, unique animation, and chilling soundtrack.
Moreover, it ran for around 20 minutes similar to other anime but covered events from chapters one to three in the manga very well in terms of pacing and visuals, despite 3D animation having a bad reputation among anime fans because in many cases, it looks “Cheap and unfinished.”
On the other hand, don’t let the 3D animation turn you away from Uzumaki as it was done surprisingly well by Studio Drive and suits the mood terrifyingly well. By the time of writing this article, Uzuamki has garnered a 7.96/10 rating on My Anime List and a 9.1/10 on IMDB but only time will tell how other episodes will do.
