US urges Sudan’s warring parties to facilitate humanitarian truce: State Department

The US is continuing to engage directly with Sudan’s Armed Forces (SAF) and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) to facilitate a humanitarian truce, a State Department spokesperson said on Thursday.

“We urge both sides to move forward in response to the US-led effort to conclude a humanitarian truce, given the immediate urgency of de-escalating the violence and ending the suffering of the Sudanese people,” the spokesperson said in a statement.

The official added that Washington was committed to working with its partners, including the Quad, to resolve the crisis in Sudan.

The Quad on Sudan includes the United States, Saudi Arabia, the UAE, and Egypt.

Earlier Thursday, the RSF said that it had accepted a proposal from the US and Arab states for a humanitarian ceasefire.
