US Treasury issues new Iran sanctions targeting crypto exchanges

The United States issued new Iran-related sanctions on Tuesday, targeting individuals and crypto exchanges, a notice on the Treasury Department website showed.
The US sanctioned four Iranian nationals and four Iran-based digital asset exchanges Nobitex, Bitpin, Ramzinex and Wallex, the Treasury said.
Foreign financial institutions and individuals may also be sanctioned if they engage in certain transactions with the four firms, the department added.
“While Iran’s economy is in free fall, the regime has chosen to co-opt digital asset technologies for its own corrupt agenda, including evading sanctions and transferring wealth out of the country,” Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said.
“Iran’s current economic chaos is proof that President Trump’s maximum pressure campaign has been a success,” he added.
