US officially ends Gaza pier operations, commander calls mission ‘complete’
The US on Tuesday officially announced the end of the temporary Gaza pier and said it would transition to using a port in Israel’s Ashdod for aid to Palestinians coming from Cyprus.
The no. 2 US military commander for the Middle East told journalists in a phone call that the pier achieved its intended mission to surge “a very high volume” of aid into Gaza.
Deputy Commander of US Central Command (CENTCOM) Vice Admiral Brad Cooper said the pier was operational for “a little more than 20 days.”
