Trump says he had a ‘great conversation’ with Syria’s al-Sharaa

US President Donald Trump said Tuesday that he had a “great” phone call with Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa as Washington pushes for a sustained ceasefire between Damascus and Kurdish forces that had been backed by the United States for the past decade.
Trump described al-Sharaa as “highly respected,” adding that things were “working out very, very well. So, we’re very happy about it.”
According to a readout from the Syrian presidency, al-Sharaa emphasized the need to “unify international efforts to stop the return of terror groups, including ISIS.”
