Timothée Chalamet makes SAG award history as youngest best actor winner

Timothée Chalamet took home the 2025 SAG Award for Best Actor.

Timothée Chalamet, a French-American actor, just accomplished something monumental!

For his performance as Bob Dylan in A Complete Unknown, Timothée won his first-ever SAG Award for Best Actor, becoming the youngest male actor to do so at the age of 29.

Prior to Timothée’s historic victory, the record was held by Nicolas Cage, who won Best Actor in 1995 for his performance in Leaving Las Vegas at the age of 32.

“This was five and a half years of my life,” the celebrated actor stated in his acceptance speech. Playing with this unmatched talent, Mr. Bob Dylan, a real American hero, was an honor of a lifetime, and I gave it my all.”

“So, I’m really appreciative. It’s a bit more fuel, but it doesn’t mean that. It’s a bit more ammunition to continue. I’m very grateful,” he continued.

A Complete Unknown previously received nominations for eight Academy Awards at the 97th Academy Awards and won six British Academy Film Awards.

The Oscar race is completely changed by the SAG results. Chalamet, Fiennes, Domingo, and Brody are all nominated for the 2025 Oscar for Best Actor in a Leading Role, along with Sebastian Stan for The Apprentice.

For Chalamet, getting the actor is a significant accomplishment. The young star is well-known for consistently losing all of the major awards he has received, despite his immense potential. Chalamet made light of his nominations for the SAG, Academy Awards, Golden Globes, and more during a Saturday Night Live monologue last month.

Attending these award events is such a wonderful experience, and it’s a huge honor. But I just. Hold. Lose. And every time, it becomes difficult to act as though it doesn’t hurt,” he said to the audience in the live studio.

Chalamet’s performance as Elio in Call Me by Your Name earned him a nomination for the same honor in 2017. But in Darkest Hour, Gary Oldman defeated him.

Chalamet’s victory is significant, but it also creates SAG Award history. At 29, Chalamet has become the youngest actor to win the Best Actor award.
