The real cost of the conflict between India and Pakistan

As the conflict and tensions between India and Pakistan continue, both countries have increased their defense budgets for 2025. Notably, India’s defense budget is approximately $86.1 billion, while Pakistan’s stands at $10.2 billion.

The Indian Armed Forces announced the launch of ‘Operation Sindoora’ to target Pakistan and its terrorist infrastructure. India reportedly succeeded in striking approximately nine locations. In response, Pakistan launched drone strikes and bombings on multiple Indian cities.

The two countries have set significant defense budgets. India’s budget far surpasses Pakistan’s, as Pakistan relies heavily on foreign aid due to its struggling economy, while India has invested in military modernization and infrastructure to counter potential attacks from Pakistan.

It is worth noting that India increased its defense budget by 1.6% for 2025, reaching $86.1 billion. India now ranks as the fifth-largest country globally in military budgeting and spending, while Pakistan’s defense budget totals $10.2 billion, according to the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI), an independent international institute dedicated to research on conflict, armaments, arms control, and disarmament.
