Dr. Anna emphasizes that atherosclerosis is not directly linked to fat consumption, but rather to carbohydrate intake. All forms of sugary treats are harmful to the body’s overall health.
Furthermore, this risk is not solely associated with gaining excess weight. Atherosclerosis and problems within the blood vessels can also lead to undesirable physical effects such as wrinkles, sagging skin, hyperpigmentation, and swelling.
Dr. Anna also points out that the risk of vascular occlusion, the obstruction of blood flow in the vessels, increases with decreased physical activity and smoking. Therefore, it is important to stay physically active and quit smoking to minimize the likelihood of this potentially fatal condition.
