Starbucks Workers’ Union goes on strike
The Starbucks Workers’ Union announced a five-day strike in three US cities, including Los Angeles, Chicago, and Seattle. The strike is set to begin today, Friday, as employees demand better pay, more staff, and improved schedules.
According to Starbucks Workers’ Union, which represents over 10,000 employees at 525 Starbucks stores across the US, the strike will last for five days and may include hundreds more branches in other cities.
The company stated that it is ready to begin negotiations with the Workers’ Union. Lynne Fox, President of Workers United said: “After all Starbucks has said about how they value partners throughout the system, we refuse to accept zero immediate investment in baristas’ wages and no resolution of the hundreds of outstanding unfair labor practices.”
Notably, negotiations between the company and the union began in April 2024, but the Starbucks Workers’ Union called for more solutions and resolutions. Employees are demanding higher salaries, more staff to help ease the workload, and improved schedules for both employees and baristas.
