Spy x Family Code: White movie tops Japanese charts!
Toho Animation took to its official YouTube channel to celebrate Spy x Family Code: White for holding the number-one spot in Japan’s box office for three consecutive months!
According to Anime New Network, the movie sold 3.29 million tickets and garnered a total of 4.41 billion yen (approximately $30.6 million) since its premiere date of 18 days on Monday. Additionally, the film earned 2.8 billion yen (about $19.47 million) in the first 10 days of release.
Spy x Family Code: White movie tops Japanese charts!
The film opened in Japan on Dec. 22, 2023, and is based on an original story by Wit Studio and Cloverworks which made the first two seasons of the beloved anime and manga. Crunchyroll is expected to release the movie to Western audiences in 2024.
We are hopeful to see an international release of the film as more and more anime movies are blessing international cinema screens worldwide including the recent The Boy and the Heron by the legendary Hayao Miyazaki and Studio Ghibli.
Crunchyroll describes the synopsis for Spy x Family Code: White as follows:
“He’s a spy. She’s an assassin. Together, Loid and Yor keep their double lives to themselves while pretending to be the perfect family. However, their adopted daughter Anya, a telepath, knows both of their exciting secrets unbeknownst to them.
While under the guise of taking his family on a weekend winter getaway, Loid’s attempt to make progress on his current mission Operation Strix proves difficult when Anya mistakenly gets involved and triggers events that threaten world peace!”

Tatsuya Endō, the mangaka behind Spy x Family worked on the character designs for the film and supervised the creation of the movie next to Wit Studio and Cloverworks, which also animated the two seasons as mentioned above.
The movie was directed by Tatsuya Endō, Ichiro Okouchi was the scriptwriter and Kazuaki Shimada was on character design.
The movie featured a beautiful theme song called “Soulsoup” by Official HiGE DANdism who also performed the first opening of the anime. Gen Hoshino who performed one of the ending songs for the anime “Kigeki” was also featured in the movie’s ending song “Hikari no Ato.”
