Sophie Turner supports Joe Jonas’ new album—even after messy divorce

Sophie Turner is showing her support for ex-husband Joe Jonas’ latest musical project.

On Saturday, May 24, the 29-year-old actress posted a link to Jonas’ latest album, Music for People Who Believe in Love, on her Instagram Stories with the message, “Go go @joejonas.”

In an exclusive interview with PEOPLE, Jonas said that he didn’t even originally plan to create the album, which was released on Friday, May 23. It is his first solo project since 2011’s Fastlife.

According to Jonas, 35, “We were writing for a camp for the [Jonas] Brothers.” “I asked the boys for their opinion because I was drawn to this particular song. I thought, “Hey, could I just take this one and see where it might go for myself?” It had a really intimate feel.

“I mean, I get it,” was Nick’s statement. I understand, yet I’m jealous. ‘I can’t really answer no, because I didn’t write on it,’ he recalled.

According to Jonas, he and a group of writers that included Lush, Alexander 23, and Justin Trainor “just carried on and made the album in two-some weeks.” He added that he nearly released his new music last fall because he was so eager to share it with the world.

“I spent some time there wanting to get it out. ‘Can I just leak the album or put it out?’ I suppose I asked my manager over the phone at some point last year. ‘I’m tired of waiting,’ I thought,” he remembered.

But in the end, Jonas said he’s glad he was “convinced not to,” because the new album wouldn’t have included his most recent song, “Heart by Heart.”

Jonas has previously acknowledged that his breakup with Turner served as a major inspiration for his new album.

In August 2024, the musician told Billboard that writing about the relationship was both liberating and frightening at times. “I don’t intend to offend anyone with this record. Putting things on blast is not my goal. The music needed to reflect both my happiness and the journey I took to get here.

“I was undergoing a lot of life transitions, discovering my identity as a friend, father, and person, and navigating the scrutiny that the music business can bring.” And I believe that I turned to music as a release during such a chaotic period of my life,” he added.

In a joint Instagram post in September 2023, the couple, who had a formal divorce in September 2024 and had two daughters, Delphine, age two, and Willa, age four, discussed their decision to split up.

“We have mutually decided to end our marriage amicably after four wonderful years of marriage,” they wrote. Although there are many theories as to why, this is a unanimous decision, and we genuinely hope that everyone will honor our requests for privacy for both ourselves and our kids.”
