Saudi Crown Prince, Japanese PM Kishida discuss Vision 2030, means of cooperation
Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman and Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida on Sunday discussed means of collaboration between both countries and looked into ways to strengthen the Saudi-Japan Vision 2030.
The meeting between both officials took place in Jeddah where MBS welcomed Kishida with an official reception ceremony before they kicked off their official talks in the presence of a delegation from both sides, the Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported.
Bilateral relations between Saudi and Japan particularly in the economic, trade, investment and cultural sectors were tackled between the two leaders, SPA said. It added that ways to enhance cooperation within the framework of the Saudi Japan vision were also discussed.
The Saudi Japan Vision 2030 was signed in 2016 between the Crown Prince and then-Prime Minister Shinzo Abe that looks into ways to strengthen relations between both countries in different fields.
The Crown Prince and Kishida “also exchanged views on a number of regional and international issues, and the efforts exerted in this regard,” SPA said.
MBS then met with Japanese business leaders and owners in the presence of Kishida.
Upon his arrival to the Kingdom on Sunday, the Japanese PM participated in a Saudi-Japan roundtable along with Saudi Minister of Investment Khalid al-Falih.
Discussions focused on means of cooperation and coordination between Japan and Saudi Arabia in different sectors including investment opportunities in a wide range of industries such as clean energy, mining, healthcare and digital technologies.
The meeting resulted in announcing the signature of 26 cooperation and investment agreements with Japan.
SPA said later on Sunday that the agreements covered different sectors such as health, entertainment, culture, traditional energy, green energy, chemicals, manufacturing, machinery and equipment. In addition to cooperation in the financial, technical, agricultural, environmental sectors as well as real estate development.
During his visit, the Japanese PM also held a meeting with Secretary General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Jasem Mohamed al-Budaiwi, during which it was agreed that a joint GCC-Japanese ministerial sit down will be held to boost cooperation.
Al-Budaiwi also revealed that free trade agreement negotiations between the GCC and the Japan have resumed where both sides signed a joint statement in this regard.
