Russia’s largest-ever 100-carat diamond unveiled

Alrosa, a Russian group of diamond mining companies specializing in exploration, mining, manufacturing, and the sale of diamonds, has unveiled Russia’s largest-ever 100-carat diamond on the global stage.

Alrosa, a Russian company, has unveiled its largest-ever 100-carat diamond. The company spent about two years cutting and polishing the diamond, named New Sun—a rare, vivid yellow diamond weighing over 100 carats.

Notably, the company extracted the rough diamond from the Ebelyakh mine in the Far East republic of Sakha (Yakutia), aged over than 200 years. The rough stone weighed over 200 carats and featured a rare, intense honey-gold color. Fifteen team members from Alrosa spent almost two years polishing and cutting the gemstone.

“Thanks to the highest skill of Russian experts, the diamond has acquired impeccable proportions that accentuate its depth and brightness of its sunny hue. New Sun is one of the most significant events in the gemstone industry in recent years, highlighting Russia’s high status in the global diamond industry,” the company stated.

It is worth mentioning that Alrosa Russian company announced earlier its plans to produce about 29 million carats of diamonds in 2025. The company currently faces EU and G7 import ban, yet it is one of the world’s largest diamond mining company by volume, the company previously produced 34.6 million carats in 2023 and 33 million carats in 2024.
