Ricky Gervais takes first ever Stand-Up Golden Globe home!

 English Comedian and actor Ricky Gervais who previously hosted the Golden Globes in 2020 and roasted several celebrities in the audience just took home with him the stand-up award for the 2024 Golden Globe!

The comedian surprised everybody on Jan. 8, 2023, after winning the first stand-up award ever at this year’s event for his Armageddon special. Ricky Gervais several comedy stars including beloved Chris Rock, Trevor Noah, Amy Schumer, and Sarah Silverman.

Ricky Gervais wasn’t sure he’s going to win the Golden Globes

Gervais took to his official X account (formerly known as Twitter) and expressed his feelings on how he was confident that he’s not going to win the Golden Globes and said:

“I’m nominated for another Golden Globe tonight. This time for my Netflix special #Armageddon. Won’t win, but it’s nice to still be up there in the mix, flying the flag.”

Unfortuentely, Ricky was not there to receive the award as American comedian and actor Jim Gaffigan received it on his behalf and said “It’s the first time that comedians are going to be acknowledged at a major award show. The Golden Globes, for 80 years, good-looking people threw a party and then you guys finally decided to invite the talented people.”

Ricky’s answer to why he didn’t show up for the award when a fan asked on his official X is that it’s simply “too far” and also added that he’d be ok if Chris Rock took the award instead of him.

“I don’t but I think it’s probably Chris Rock’s year and I’m fine with that.”

The Golden Globes isn’t the same without Ricky Gervais

Fans of the star voiced their opinion that it’s just “not the same” if Ricky isn’t present and hosting the Golden Globes as he made it one of the most memorable events in TV history in 2020 after roasting several Hollywood celebrities and the industry making it the best highlight of the ceremony.
