Plans approved for Immingham green energy terminal

Plans for a green energy terminal in North East Lincolnshire have been approved.

The application for the port of Immingham, on the banks of the Humber, was given the go-ahead on Thursday.

The terminal, which will include a new jetty, will be used for the import and export of bulk liquids.

The proposals approved by Transport Secretary Heidi Alexander had been submitted to the Planning Inspectorate by Associated British Ports (ABP) in 2023.

Imported ammonia will be stored and converted into green hydrogen for distribution to UK filling stations.

ABP is working with gas supplier Air Products to bring the new green hydrogen facility to the port.

The project went through two statutory consultations before reaching the transport secretary.

Alexander said the development would help keep pace with the changing needs of the energy sector.
