Pentagon chief to Middle East as Israel-Gaza war rages

US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin is traveling to the Middle East next week, the Pentagon said, as Washington exerts efforts to contain the Israel-Hamas war in Gaza and potentially find a solution to end it.

Austin is scheduled to visit Bahrain, Qatar and Israel, Pentagon Press Secretary Maj. Gen. Pat Ryder told reporters.
