Pakistan PM and army chief to visit Saudi Arabia August 6-8: Foreign office

Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and army chief Asim Munir will visit Saudi Arabia on August 6-8, the nation’s foreign office said on Thursday.

“Although taking place against the backdrop of heightened tensions in the Gulf, the visit will carry significance beyond the immediate crisis and short term considerations,” the statement shared on X said.

A high-level delegation will accompany both officials, the statement added, noting that Sharif is expected to meet with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman.

Talks with MBS “would focus on consolidating Pakistan-Saudi Arabia bilateral relations we well as exchange of views on regional and international developments of mutual interest,” the statement said.

The visit comes at a time when the region is witnessing a flurry of diplomatic activity with the US-Iran conflict and its regional impact at the forefront.

Pakistan has acted as a mediatior in the conflict that has spilled over to the Gulf states due to Iranian attacks.
