‘Monster’ in toddler’s wall turned out to be 50000 bees
A North Carolina woman said her 3-year-old daughter’s insistence that there was a “monster” lurking behind her bedroom wall led to the discovery of more than 50,000 bees.
Ashley Class said she and her husband initially thought their daughter was merely imagining the presence of a monster in the closet of her farmhouse bedroom.
“She was saying she heard monsters in her bedroom wall, but we’d been watching Monster’s Inc.,” Class told People.com. “She was a little speech delayed, so when she tried explaining it, we thought she meant there were monsters in her closet.”
Class said it wasn’t until after numerous incidents where her daughter heard the supposed specter that she and her husband started spotting bees in the attic.
Beekeeper Curtis Collins was called to the home and gave Class a scare when he used a thermal imaging camera on the wall of her daughter’s room.
“I kid you not, it lit up like Christmas in the wall right next to my daughter’s closet,” Class said. “When I first thought it was like, a man in the wall, I was really startled.”
Collins ended up removing more than 50,000 bees from inside the walls of the home. He said the hive was twice the size of any other hive he has ever found hiding inside a house.
“It was like an apocalypse, is all I can think about,” Class said. “It’s just all these bees started flying out.”
She said the bees are leaving her with a $20,000 home repair bill that her insurance has refused to cover.
“That’s good that we saved all of those bees,” she said. “But I’m ready for them to be evicted.”
