Lebanon suspects Israeli Mossad behind kidnapping of former security official

Israel’s Mossad is suspected of kidnapping a former Lebanese security official in recent days for alleged links to the disappearance of Ron Arad, according to a Lebanese judicial source.

The source said that a group of individuals arrived in Lebanon two days before the operation and some of them departed on the same day the kidnapping took place.

Ahmed Shukr, a retired captain in Lebanon’s General Security, was reportedly lured from the eastern Bekaa Valley border town of Nabi Sheet to Zahle, where he was abducted.

Lebanese media reports said at least two Swedish nationals were involved in the operation, one of whom is of Lebanese origin, after entering the country through the Rafik Hariri International Airport.

Shukr’s brother is believed to have been affiliated with the Amal Movement, which has been linked to the downing of an Israeli aircraft in 1986. The pilot, Arad, was captured after ejecting from the plane and has remained missing ever since.
