Lebanese singer Najah Salam dies aged 92
Lebanese singer Najah Salam passed away on Thursday at the age of 92, the artist’s daughter announced on Facebook.
In a post, Samar Salman Al-Otaifi said: “And the journey is over… Mama is in God’s arms.”
Fans of the Lebanese singer, who is well-known for her song “يا أغلى اسم في الوجود يا مصر” (which means Egypt is the most precious name), were shocked and sad by her death.
About Najah Salam
Najah Salam, born in Beirut in 1931, was a Lebanese singer. She recorded her first songs for Baidaphon in Cairo in 1949.
She was married to Mohamed Salman. She started her career by singing at school concerts. In 1948, her father accompanied her to Cairo, where he introduced her to great artists such as Umm Kulthum, musician Farid al-Atrash, and his sister, singer Asmahan.
She received an Academy Award from the Society Honoring Giants of Arab Art in the United States in 1995. The Lebanese singer has also joined the cast of 10 movies.
