Kanye West’s ‘Vultures’ album cuts out after Ye raps ‘antisemite’ lyric

Kanye West’s latest album, ‘Vultures’, has been plagued by delays and controversies, and the rapper’s livestream event on Thursday night was no exception.

The stream, which was broadcasted on Veeps, abruptly cut out after West rapped a lyric that referred to himself as an “antisemite”.

The incident occurred during the debut of one of the new songs from the album, which features West and Ty Dolla Sign as a hip hop duo called ¥$. In the song, West raps, “And I’m still crazy, bipolar, antisemite / And I’m still the king.” As soon as he said the word “king”, the screen went black and the audio went silent, leaving fans confused and frustrated.

It is unclear whether the interruption was intentional or accidental, as neither West nor Veeps have commented on the matter. However, some fans speculated that it was a deliberate stunt by West, who has a history of making provocative and controversial statements, especially regarding Jewish people.

In 2023, West faced backlash for saying that “Jewish people got a plan, they protect each other” during an interview with Nick Cannon. He also claimed that he was “being used to spread messages I don’t believe in” by the “Jewish record labels” that he was signed to. West later apologized for his remarks, saying that he was “misinformed and ignorant”.

‘Vultures’ is West’s first independent album, as he severed ties with his former labels, Universal Music Group and Sony Music Entertainment, in 2023. The album, which is the first of a trilogy, was originally scheduled to be released on December 15, 2023, but was postponed several times due to sample clearance issues. The album finally dropped on Friday, February 9, 2024, after the livestream event.

The album features guest appearances from artists such as Charlie Wilson, Lil Baby, Freddie Gibbs, Quavo, Playboi Carti, Travis Scott, Chris Brown, YG, Nipsey Hussle, Leon Thomas, India Love, James Blake, Future, Bump J, Lil Durk, Westside Gunn, Young Thug, Leon Bridges, Kid Cudi, JPEGMafia, and West’s daughter, North West.
