Judge denies Jay-Z ’s motion to dismiss rape case involving 13-year-old girl
A judge in New York rejected Jay-Z’s attempts to have a lawsuit against him dismissed that accused him of raping a 13-year-old girl in 2000.
The judge also criticized the hip-hop mogul’s attorney for utilizing aggressive tactics.
Although Jay-Z, whose real name is Shawn Carter, has refuted the accusations, the judge in the case used forceful language to criticize the acts of his legal team.
Judge Analisa Torres noted in the court ruling, “Carter’s lawyer’s persistent filing of combative motions containing inflammatory language and ad hominem attacks is inappropriate, a waste of judicial resources, and a tactic unlikely to benefit his client.”
Jay-Z’s defense team has been advocating for the drop of the rape allegation. The court “will not expedite the judicial process merely because counsel demands it,” according to Torres.

Despite the defense team’s attempts to have Carter publicly expose who she is, Torres separately allowed her accuser to pursue her claim anonymously as a Jane Doe.
Carter’s Jane Doe claim stems from an October amended complaint against Sean “Diddy” Combs, in which Combs was accused of raping her when she was 13 years old during the 2000 MTV Video Music Awards.
The woman’s new claim asserted that Combs and Carter had sexually assaulted her during a post-awards party. She claimed to have been drunk at the event and had entered an adjacent bedroom after feeling dizzy.
The woman claims that Combs sexually assaulted her after Carter had done so. According to the updated lawsuit, the lady claims she bolted out of the party after hitting Combs.
Federal investigators accused Combs of a sex trafficking conspiracy, and Carter is the first well-known individual to face sexual assault charges. Prosecutors have not named any other co-conspirators. Combs will face trial in May following his not guilty plea.
Jay-Z, 55, claimed in a statement following his alleged rape on December 9 that the accusations were “so heinous in nature that I implore you to file a criminal complaint, not a civil one!!” Do you not believe that an individual who would inflict such harm on a child should face imprisonment?
Carter aka Jay-Z refuted the allegation and pointed out inconsistencies in his accuser’s testimony, which his lawyers assert show her lawyer, Texas personal injury litigator Tony Buzbee, is pursuing “fame and money.” Alex Spiro, Carter’s lawyer, described Doe’s case as “all a fantasy” earlier this month.
The Jane Doe acknowledged to NBC News earlier this month that she had “made some mistakes” about corroborating witnesses in her initial report.
She advised, “You should always speak up for yourself and be an advocate.” Never let someone else’s actions control or destroy your life. All I can hope for is that I will inspire others to come forward as I did.
However, citing such discrepancies, Torres denied Carter’s attorneys’ request for an expedited dismissal of the woman’s claim. Torres also denounced Spiro’s accusation that Buzbee, the woman’s attorney, was attempting to extort his client.
Carter has sued Buzbee, and Buzbee has sued Carter’s business, Roc Nation, which produces the NFL Super Bowl halftime show, further complicating the legal matter. He says that the business and its attorneys fraudulently lured former Buzbee customers into bringing “frivolous” lawsuits against him by employing “shadowy operatives” and offering paydays.
“Since his initial appearance in this case 17 days ago, Carter’s lawyer has submitted a litany of letters and motions attempting to impugn the character of the plaintiff’s lawyer, many of them expounding on the purported ‘urgency’ of this case,” according to Torres’ ruling this week.
The judgment went on to state that “Carter’s counsel has failed to abide by this Court’s clear rules,” while accusing the plaintiff’s lawyer of having a “chronic inability to follow the rules.”
