Medical workers say 22 people were killed since dawn in the enclave as the Israeli military stepped up operations in Deir el-Balah in central Gaza and Khan Younis in the south.
Thousands of Palestinians fled parts of Deir el-Balah as the Israeli military issued new evacuation orders, and its forces advanced deeper into the overcrowded central city.

Two homes belonging to brothers demolished in West Bank village: Report
Israeli forces have started demolishing two homes in the village of Kharbatha al-Misbah in the occupied West Bank, reports the Wafa news agency.

The homes belong to two brothers and collectively house 13 people, said Wafa, citing the head of the village’s council.

Home demolitions are common in the West Bank, where Israel rejects nearly all building permits for Palestinians.

In July, Israeli forces demolished 98 structures in the West Bank, including 62 inhabited homes, reports the Ramallah-based Colonization and Wall Resistance Commission. So far this year, demolitions have displaced more than 2,000 people in the West Bank, according to the UN’s Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs.

China urges citizens to leave Lebanon
China has urged its citizens in Lebanon to leave “as soon as possible” after an Israeli attack killed a senior leader of Palestinian group Fatah in the city of Sidon on Wednesday morning.

“Recently, the situation on the Lebanese-Israeli border has continued to be tense, and security circumstances in Lebanon are severe and complex,” China’s embassy in Beirut said.

The statement advised Chinese citizens in Lebanon to “take the opportunity while commercial flights are still running to return to China or leave the country as soon as possible”.

Multiple countries have already advised their citizens to leave the country amid rising tensions between Israel and Hezbollah.

Four Israeli settlers detained over West Bank village attack: Report

Israeli police detained four Israeli settlers accused of taking part in a deadly rampage in the Palestinian village of Jit last week, reports The Times of Israel.

The four suspects are being investigated for “terrorism against Palestinians”, said The Times of Israel, citing a statement from police and the Shin Bet security service.

As we reported last week, dozens of masked Israeli settlers broke into Jit, near Qalqilya, on August 16, setting fire to cars, destroying property and shooting dead one Palestinian.

An Israeli air attack killed three people in the West Bank city of Tulkarem, according to the Palestinian Health Ministry.

The crew of a Greek-flagged tanker which came under attack in the Red Sea has been rescued after abandoning their vessel, reports Reuters.

Following recent evacuation orders for Deir el-Balah and Khan Younis, Doctors Without Borders (MSF) project coordinator Jacob Granger said Israel’s “continuous forced displacement of people is inhumane”.

Israel forces arrest 25 Palestinians across West Bank: Report

Israeli forces have arrested 25 Palestinians, including two women and a child, overnight and this morning across the occupied West Bank, Wafa reports.

The Commission of Detainees and Ex-Detainees Affairs and the Palestinian Prisoner’s Society (PPS) said in a joint statement that the Israeli raids were marked by violence and intimidation.

Witnesses also told PPS that detainees and their families experienced threats and extensive damage to their homes.

Since the war on Gaza began on October 7, more than 10,000 Palestinians have been arrested from the West Bank.

22 killed as Israeli tanks push deeper into Gaza

Israeli attacks in Gaza this morning have killed at least 22 people, according to medical officials quoted by our colleagues at Al Jazeera Arabic.

There was a wave of attacks on homes which killed six people in Maghazi, three in the Jabalia camp, and two others – a woman and her child – in Khan Younis.

The Israeli military said its forces intensified their operations in Deir el-Balah, in central Gaza, and Khan Younis, in the south, dismantling dozens of military structures and killing Palestinian fighters over the past 24 hours.

Will the world accept long-term Israeli occupation of Gaza?

In the absence of serious pressure from the US, Israel likely plans to indefinitely occupy Gaza, where settler outposts could even emerge, warns journalist and author Antony Loewenstein.

Speaking to Al Jazeera, Loewenstein, who wrote The Palestine Laboratory, compared Israel’s strategy in Gaza with its approach in the occupied West Bank, where it strengthened its control of the territory for years while drawn-out peace negotiations took place.

Crew of attacked Red Sea vessel rescued: Report

The crew of a Greek-flagged ship, which had been drifting in the Red Sea after coming under attack on Wednesday, has been rescued after evacuating the vessel, reports Reuters news agency.

The crew of the ship – the Sounion – was made up of two Russians and 23 Filipinos, said Reuters. They were rescued by the EU’s Red Sea naval mission Aspides it added, quoting an official with the mission.

Yemen’s Houthis have been waging attacks on vessels they claim are linked to Israel passing through the Red Sea since November, acting in what they say is solidarity with Gaza. The campaign has killed at least four sailors and sunk two ships.

The rebel group has not commented on Wednesday’s attacks on the Sounion.

While West Bank-style settlements are unlikely to appear soon in Gaza, “you might see some outposts of radical, right-wing Jewish settlers there”, he added. “That is quite likely because that’s what the government in Israel wants.”

And while any long-term occupation of Gaza would be sure to trigger international outrage, Israel’s government is banking on it not moving the needle with any future US administration, Loewenstein said.

Israeli military claims it hit weapons depot near Gaza City school

In its latest war update, Israel’s military claims to have killed 50 fighters and destroyed extensive military infrastructure in Gaza in the last day.

One of its targets, the military said, was a weapons depot it claimed was located next to Gaza City’s Salah al-Din School, where we reported a lethal attack yesterday.

It claimed the school building was being used as a “Hamas command and control center”, repeating previous accusations against other targeted schools in the area.

UNRWA chief Philippe Lazzarini condemned the attack on the school amid reports children were among its victims.
