Israel’s war on Gaza live: Israeli attacks kill 42 in Gaza
- Gaza’s Health Ministry says 42 Palestinians were killed and 107 wounded in the latest 24-hour reporting period.
- Palestinian children are being vaccinated in Deir el-Balah amid loud explosions in Bureij and Maghazi refugee camps, which were excluded from a humanitarian pause in fighting and the vaccination campaign.

Back to school – but not for the 625,000 children of Gaza
- On the first day of school, children are always beaming, as if the sun is shining out of their faces, bringing a smile to everyone’s face.
I used to shop for new clothes as well because I loved to meet my students looking nice.
All of this disappeared because of the war. We still can’t believe that we’ve lost everything in this war on Gaza.
There is a deep sense of sadness among the parents and students. Instead of going back to school, at least 625,000 children are out of school.
Former Israeli negotiator says Netanyahu obstructing ceasefire deal
Former Israeli negotiator Gershon Baskin told Al Jazeera that while a quick deal with Hamas to end the war is possible, PM Netanyahu was obstructing it by insisting on Israeli control of the Philadelphi Corridor, which Baskin called a “ploy”.
He stated that military personnel in Israel agree the war could end in three weeks, with Hamas willing to release all Israeli captives if the conflict ends by then, in exchange for the release of Palestinian prisoners.
Another deadly attack on home in Nuseirat
It is the second deadly attack on the camp today, with the first killing one person in their home.
As we reported earlier, strikes were heard in Nuseirat and Maghazi areas amid a vaccination drive in nearby Deir el-Balah.
Israel wants to make occupation of West Bank ‘stronger’
Palestinian reporter Leila Warah says Israel’s latest assault in the occupied West Bank is not a counterterrorism operation as it claims, but an attempt to “fortify the occupation”.
“They want to make their occupation stronger so that in the long run, they can take over the West Bank and turn it into part of the Israeli state, which we’re already seeing,” she told Al Jazeera.
Moreover, she said despite Israel’s military operations to “suppress” Palestinian resistance, it is unlikely to work.
“It just creates more resistance, more people coming forward and resisting … these are very young Palestinian men with very limited resources who are desperate to not be living under occupation,” she added.
No information on possible new ceasefire proposal, says Hamas
Spokesman Osama Hamdan says Hamas has not received any official word on a possible new ceasefire proposal from the US.
However, he questioned whether Washington’s optimism was genuine or simply geared at a domestic audience ahead of the November elections.
“We don’t need more negotiations,” said Hamdan, accusing the Israeli government of repeatedly sabotaging them.
“I think what we need now is real pressure on Israel from the Americans” to accept the US-backed ceasefire proposal put forward back in May, he said.
First phase of vaccination drive in central Gaza complete: WHO
The World Health Organization has announced the completion of the first phase of its polio vaccination campaign in central Gaza, having administered first doses to 187,000 children.
This effort exceeded its target of 156,000 children for the area, said WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus in a post on X.
However, “to ensure no child is missed”, medical teams will continue to offer vaccinations at “four fixed sites” in central Gaza for three more days, he said.
The vaccination campaign will now move to southern Gaza.
Gaza resident creates shoes made of wood amid ongoing blockade
As Israel’s war on Gaza prevents the entry of basic needs, resident Sabir Dawwas has come up with a unique solution for residents looking for a pair of shoes.
Dawwas uses fabric and wood to provide people with footwear as the nearly 11-month-long war has left the coastal enclave in ruins.
An ongoing blockade of Gaza has led to severe shortages of food, clean water, and medicine, creating a dire humanitarian situation on the ground.
Hamas says UN jumping to conclusions on Israeli captives’ deaths
Hamas spokesperson has urged the UN not to accept Israel’s narrative on the six captives whose bodies were found in Gaza before getting all the facts and hearing all sides.
In an interview with Al Jazeera, Hamdan called for the UN to be “balanced” when looking into the captives’ deaths. Israel claims that Hamas guards killed them, while Hamas says it is still awaiting details.
Hamdan also said the UN should consider the role of Israeli forces in killing the captives in previous air raids or botched rescue efforts.
Hamas’s military spokesperson Abu Obeida said on Monday that captives held in Gaza would return to Israel “in coffins” if Israeli military pressure continues and that Hamas had issued “new instructions” to their guards in case Israeli troops approach.
Hamdan said Abu Obeida’s comments were directed at Israel’s attempts to rescue the captives.
“The message from Abu Obeida [to Israel] was: You have tried to try to get your people back by force and each time that caused their killing,” he said. “If you continue to try this way, you will cause the death of your people.”
