Israel’s PM Netanyahu orders ‘powerful, immediate’ attacks on Gaza

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has ordered the military to carry out “powerful” attacks in Gaza, his office says.
It comes after Netanyahu alleged Hamas committed a “clear violation” of the ceasefire deal. For its part, Gaza’s Government Media Office accused Israel of committing 125 violations of the ceasefire since it came into effect on October 10, including killing 94 Palestinians.
US vice president says Gaza ceasefire holds despite Israeli bombing
JD Vance says the United States expects Israel to retaliate against ceasefire violations by Hamas, but the overall framework of the agreement remains in place.

“The ceasefire is holding. That doesn’t mean that there aren’t going to be little skirmishes here and there,” Vance told reporters.

“We know that Hamas or somebody else within Gaza attacked an [Israeli military] soldier. We expect the Israelis are going to respond, but I think the president’s peace is going to hold despite that.”

US officials have offered little criticism of the continuous Israeli attacks in Gaza that have killed nearly 100 Palestinians since the beginning of the US-backed truce, along with other violations such as continued Israeli restrictions on humanitarian aid.

Hamas denied involvement in a shooting attack that took place near Rafah earlier, which Israel used as justification to launch deadly air strikes.
Israeli army chief: ‘The war is not yet over’
Eyal Zamir says Hamas is committed to returning the remaining deceased Israeli captives, but “it is violating its commitment”.

“We will not remain silent about this. We will continue to act to return all our hostages for burial. This is our moral and ethical duty,” he was quoted as saying by The Times of Israel.

“If Hamas does not fulfil its commitments, it will bear responsibility and will pay a heavy price. Many challenges still await us. The war is not yet over.”

Zamir’s remarks come as Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu ordered “powerful strikes” on Gaza after accusing Hamas of violating the ceasefire with an attack in Rafah – a claim rejected by the Palestinian group.

Death toll rises to nearly 100 Palestinians during Gaza ceasefire
At least 94 Palestinians have been killed since the beginning of the ceasefire with Israel on October 10.

Some of the victims have been accused – and their killings justified – with Israeli forces saying they crossed the “yellow line” delineating Israel’s zone of control in Gaza.

But for the first several days of the truce, Palestinians here did not even know where this line was – where it starts and where it ends. Israeli forces put some yellow “danger” signs in some areas but not in its entirety.

About 10 days ago, the Abu Shaaban family of 11 Palestinians were killed in an Israeli attack on Gaza City – among them children and women returning back to their houses. There was a journalist killed during the ceasefire, and Israel’s deadly attacks now continue.
