Israeli war on Gaza live: ‘Surrounded by nothing but death and destruction’

  • UN condemns Israel for inflicting “enormous destruction” in the Jenin refugee camp in the occupied West Bank as the army continues to lay siege, leaving Palestinians without access to food, water, electricity and the internet.
  • Israel’s military recovered the bodies of six Israeli captives from a tunnel underneath Rafah in southern Gaza as relatives of those held by Hamas call for mass protests against Netanyahu’s government.

Children injured after Israeli raid in southern Lebanon

Three people were injured when Israeli forces raided the town of Beit Yahoun in southern Lebanon, according to health officials.

Lebanon’s National News Agency reported the wounded included a 13-year-old girl with serious injuries who was taken to the hospital, as well as two girls aged 10 and 16 who were also admitted.

The two sides have been exchanging tit-for-tat attacks for months. Global fears of an all-out regional conflict multiplied after the assassination last month of Hamas political chief Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran.

Relatives of killed captive refuse Netanyahu condolence call

The office of Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu says he spoke to the family of Alexander Lobanov, whose body was among the six recovered from Gaza, apologising and expressing “deep sorrow” over his death.

But the family of another captive, Carmel Gat, said they refused to speak to Netanyahu, and instead called on Israelis to join protests demanding a deal to release the remaining captives.

“We have no interest in talking to whoever murdered Carmel or being a prop in his media circus. We will not allow him to use us as justification and legitimisation for the murder of the next abductee. The blood of the kidnapped is on his hands,” Gat’s cousin, Gil Dickmann, wrote on X.
