Israeli soldiers kill ‘assailant’ near Egyptian border: Army

Israeli soldiers shot and killed an “assailant” near the Egyptian border Saturday, the army said, in a rare exchange of fire on the normally calm frontier.

“During a confrontation with an assailant in Israeli territory a short while ago… soldiers responded with live fire and neutralized the assailant,” an army statement said.

A spokesperson confirmed the attacker had been killed.
