Israel kills 84 Palestinians in war-devastated Gaza strikes

Israeli bombardment has killed 84 people in war-battered Gaza since dawn, with the United Nations saying the military is “inflicting terror on the Palestinian population of Gaza City and forcing tens of thousands to flee”.
The Global Sumud Flotilla reports explosions and communications jamming as drones hover overhead after Israel promised to “take the necessary measures” to stop it from breaking the sea siege of Gaza.
Macron warns Israel against closing France’s Jerusalem consulate
President Emmanuel Macron has warned Israel against closing down the French consulate in Jerusalem as a possible retaliatory measure following his announcement earlier this week that France now recognises a Palestinian state.
“I think that would be a major error and therefore I don’t believe it will happen,” he said in an interview with France 24 and Radio France Internationale on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York.
Israel claims most of Gaza City emptied, vows to continue ground offensive
Israeli military chief of staff Eyal Zamir has said that “most of Gaza’s population has already left Gaza City” and that the army “will continue a systematic and thorough advance” into Gaza’s largest urban centre.
Zamir also reiterated Israeli claims that the army is pushing the Palestinian population southward “for their safety” and that it is “ensuring compliance with all security rules”.
These claims are contradicted by findings by human rights experts, including a UN commission of inquiry, which concluded this week that Israel intends to establish permanent control over the Gaza Strip while ensuring a Jewish majority in the occupied West Bank and inside Israel.
