European Union leaders will call for the establishment of “humanitarian corridors and pauses” to get urgently-needed aid into Gaza, according to the final draft of a text to be approved at a summit in Brussels.

“The European Council expresses its gravest concern for the deteriorating humanitarian situation in Gaza and calls for continued, rapid, safe and unhindered humanitarian access and aid to reach those in need through all necessary measures including humanitarian corridors and pauses,” the text says.

“The European Union will work closely with partners in the region to protect civilians, provide assistance and facilitate access to food, water, medical care, fuel and shelter, ensuring that such assistance is not abused by terrorist organisations.”

Al Jazeera journalist leads prayers at funeral of family killed in attack

Funerals have been held for the family members of Al Jazeera correspondent Wael Dahdouh who were killed in an Israeli air attack in central Gaza on Wednesday night.

Dahdouh was reporting from Gaza City when he was told that an air raid had targeted a building that destroyed his extended family’s house at the Nuseirat refugee camp.

His wife; son Mahmoud, who was a senior in high school; and his seven-year-old daughter, Sham, were killed. Hours later, it was confirmed that his grandson Adam had died as well. Other members of his family are still missing.

Al Jazeera strongly condemned “the indiscriminate targeting and killing of innocent civilians in Gaza” and said it held “the Israeli authorities responsible” for its workers’ security.

Protesters demonstrate in front of Red Cross HQ in Ramallah

Families of Palestinian prisoners held in Israeli jails are staging a protest in front of Red Cross headquarters in Ramallah, the occupied West Bank.

The families were joined by International Committee of the Red Cross staff who closed their own office.

Both sets are simply frustrated. They believe the ICRC is not doing enough to put pressure on Israel. These guys are the front-line workers. Whenever there is a demonstration, whenever these raids take place, they are first on the scene. They see this stuff firsthand and they’re worried that their own organisation simply isn’t doing enough.

They want the ICRC to put more pressure on the Israeli government to do more in releasing prisoners or at least allow medics and lawyers to visit the Palestinian prisoners.
