The popular weight loss drug, Ozempic is causing panic among its users after experts revealed an alarming side effect.
Experts claim that Ozempic is causing blindness by leading to conditions such as inflammation and blocking blood flow to the eye, thus resulting in severe vision loss which can potentially be permanent, as reported by The Daily Mail.
Additionally, US researchers recently reported nine local patients who have suffered from blindness while taking Semaglutide, the ingredient found in the popular weight loss drug. Reports indicate that a woman took a jab of Ozempic for her diabetes and woke up the next day blind.
The woman was advised by her doctor to stop Ozempic usage for two months after losing sight in her left eye, but her diabetes kicked in, forcing her to take it again. Two weeks after reintroducing the medication to her body, she went blind in her right eye.

Despite its dangerous side effects, Ozempic has witnessed a rise in popularity among celebrities and non-diabetic individuals due to its fast results.
Other patients suffered a similar fate, where another woman noticed a “painless shadow” in her left eye and testing revealed blood vessels in her retina which became damaged, leading to vision loss.
Experts added that while the cause remains unclear, drugs like Ozempic cause a rapid drop in blood sugar levels which can damage blood vessels in the eyes, resulting in blindness.
According to health officials, the average age of patients who were affected by the alarming side effects is around 57, of whom 56 percent were women.
The repeated incidents sparked debate across several social media including Musk’s X (formerly known as Twitter) where several individuals advised Ozempic users to undergo a more natural weight loss journey than take the popular drug. Here’s what some had to say about the matter in question:
“Just got to the dang gym 3 days a week and put down the bucket of ice cream.”
“No pill or injections will ever save you just remember that. Your mind is the key.” Another added, “Try self-control and discipline, it’s a bit harder but it works.”
