Iran says conveyed conditions to US through Qatar, Witkoff says engaged in lengthy talks

Iran engaged with the United States through a Qatari mediator in New York and conveyed conditions including an end to the war on all fronts and a halt to what Tehran called US “acts of aggression,” Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmail Baghaei said.

Baghaei said Iran’s conditions also included an end to the naval blockade and economic warfare, and the release of Iranian assets.

US Special Envoy Steve Witkoff said on X that the US side “engaged in lengthy talks with the Iranian delegation through the mediators, who shuttled between the two sides throughout the day,” on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly.

“They successfully completed a round of discussions that we hope will prove constructive and promising. The mediators will continue their work,” Witkoff added in his post.

Iranian state television had reported that Iran told the US that its conditions included the immediate lifting of Washington’s naval blockade, the immediate release of all frozen Iranian assets and an end to the war on what Tehran calls all “resistance fronts.”
