Iran president says Tehran will respond ‘appropriately’ to Israel attack
Iran’s President Masoud Pezeshkian said on Sunday Tehran was not looking for war but will respond “appropriately” to Israel’s attack.
“We do not seek war, but we will defend the rights of our nation and country. We will give an appropriate response to the aggression of the Zionist regime,” state news agency IRNA quoted Pezeshkian as saying.
On Saturday, Israel carried out airstrikes against military sites in Iran in response to Tehran’s missile attack on October 1, itself a retaliation for the killing of Iran-backed militant leaders and an Iranian Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) commander.
At least four Iranian soldiers were killed in the attack which Iran said caused “limited damage” to a few radar systems.
The Israeli military has warned Tehran against responding.
Earlier on Sunday, Iran’s highest authority, Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, said Israel’s attack against Iran “should neither be exaggerated nor minimized.” He described the attack as a “miscalculation.”
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said on Sunday that Israel’s air attack on Iran was “precise and powerful” and achieved all its goals.
