How to calm yourself before bed after hearing news

Sleep is an essential part of a healthy lifestyle but sometimes, after watching the news, it can be hard to shake off the stress and anxiety, making it challenging to fall asleep.

What’s happening in the world right now can easily make someone feel overwhelmed. It is normal to feel uneasy after watching the news, but it is also important to try and make sure it doesn’t affect your sleep, as both your body and mind need rest.

Here are some things you can do to calm yourself and your mind down before bed, in order to get that rest you deserve.

The first step is to turn off the TV. An obvious step, but not always the easiest. Depending on what type of news you are watching or listening to, it might be hard to turn your attention away from it for even a minute, but it is important to remember that there is such a thing as watching too much news. Take a break from the continuous stream of news and give your mind a chance to slow down and relax.

2. Take a relaxing bath or shower

A warm bath or shower can help to relax your muscles and ease your mind after a stressful day. It can be a great way to calm yourself down before bed, regardless of whether you have watched the news or not.

3. Read a book before bed

Reading a book before bed is a great way to relax and take your mind off of things. Choose a book that you find calming and engaging. It may be fiction, non-fiction, or even a self-help book. As long as it can take your mind to another place for a bit, it’s worth it.

4. Listen to calming music

Music can be a powerful tool to help you relax and unwind after a long day. Choose music that is soothing and calming to you, which can help to create a peaceful mindset before bed. It is much better to have it be music be the last thing you listen to before going to bed instead of TV news.

Drinking a cup of herbal tea, such as chamomile or lavender, can help to soothe your nerves and promote relaxation, making it a perfect go-to before going to bed. Avoid caffeine at all costs, as it can interfere with your sleep quality.

Remember, taking care of your mental health is just as important as taking care of your physical health. It might be hard to turn away from the news, but remember that exhausting yourself and your body won’t do anyone any good, so make sure you get the rest you need.
