Highest volume of crude oil since July transited Hormuz this week: US defense official

Around 60 vessels went through the Strait of Hormuz on Wednesday, marking the highest volume of crude oil in one day since the summer, a US defense official said.

The total amount of crude oil that transited the Strait, which Iran effectively shut down, was the highest since early July, the official said.

An estimated 40 of those vessels coordinated with the US military for protection, the US defense official said.

US and Iranian officials held rare talks earlier this week on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York. It is unclear whether a breakthrough is imminent to reopen the Strait in return for the United States lifting its naval blockade on Iranian imports and exports.
