Hezbollah may attack Israel ‘in coming days,’ Iran still weighing response: Report
Lebanon’s Iran-backed Hezbollah militia appears increasingly likely to strike Israel independently of Iranian plans.
Both Iran and Hezbollah have vowed retaliation against Israel following the recent killings of top Hezbollah commander Fuad Shukr in Beirut and Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran.
While Israel has confirmed its strike on Shukr, it has not commented on Haniyeh’s killing.
Hezbollah is advancing its plans more rapidly than Iran and may launch an attack on Israel “in the coming days,” the report said, citing a source familiar with the intelligence.
Iran, on the other hand, is still determining its response, according to the report.
Given Lebanon’s proximity to Israel, the report noted, Hezbollah could act with little to no warning, unlike Iran, which is farther away.
“It is not clear how or if Iran and Hezbollah … are coordinating on a possible attack right now … and there is a sense among some officials that the two may not be entirely aligned on how to move forward,” the report added.
