Hayden Panettiere death ruled accidental as police close investigation

Hayden Panettiere death investigation ends with accidental ruling.
The death of ‘Heroes’ and ‘Nashville’ actress Hayden Panettiere has been officially ruled accidental, bringing the local police investigation into her passing to a close more than two months after she died at the age of 36.
The Greenville Police Department in South Carolina announced on Wednesday, October 28, that its investigation had concluded following the medical examiner’s determination and the findings of the police inquiry. No charges were announced in connection with the case.
What Caused Hayden Panettiere’s Death?

According to the Greenville County Coroner’s Office, Panettiere died from the toxic effects of several drugs, including fentanyl, 4-ANPP, alprazolam, methocarbamol, and quetiapine. Her death was classified as accidental.
The autopsy found no signs of trauma that contributed to her death, according to the coroner’s report.
Panettiere was found unresponsive at an apartment at Judson Mill Lofts in Greenville on August 16, 2026. Emergency responders arrived after an acquaintance called 911 and found her in cardiac arrest. Despite attempts to resuscitate her, she was pronounced dead at the scene.
The initial investigation did not indicate signs of foul play or suspicious circumstances. However, authorities continued examining the circumstances surrounding her death while awaiting the medical findings.
Is the Investigation Completely Over?
Although Greenville police have closed their investigation, questions remain about whether all inquiries into Panettiere’s death have concluded.
The Drug Enforcement Administration was reported to have assisted with the investigation. The agency has not publicly confirmed whether its involvement has ended, and local authorities have not announced a final outcome for any separate federal inquiry.
The police announcement marks the end of the local investigation, while the medical examiner’s findings establish the official classification of her death.
